Tammy Kitzmiller. v. Dover Area School District, was the first direct challenge brought in the United States federal courts testing a public school district policy that required the teaching of intelligent design. In October 2004 the Dover Area School District changed its biology teaching curriculum to require that intelligent design be presented as an alternative to evolution theory, and that Of Pandas and People was to be used as a reference book. The plaintiffs successfully argued that intelligent design is a form of creationism, and that the school board policy violated the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment to the United States Constitution. The judge's decision sparked considerable response from both supporters and critics.
lark v. Martinez, was a United States Supreme Court case about the detention of inadmissible immigrants during the deportation process. An alien can be found inadmissible on the grounds of poor health, criminal history, substance trafficking, prostitution/human trafficking, money laundering, terrorist activity, In the case of Martinez and Benitez where deportation to Cuba is implausible, further detention is unnecessary. The court however did not grant constitutional protection from indefinite detention to inadmissible immigrants. With the decision of Clark v. Martinez, Mariel Cubans who have been under long term detention are to be released from custody

State Data Sheet
Every new Senator
makes an introductory speech to the Senate.
In order to speak effectively and identify the state-focused issue on
which you will concentrate, you will need to collect some data about your
state. The more you know, the more
effective you should be in addressing the real needs of your state. The information you gather should also help
you to create your campaign poster and organize your introductory speech to the
Senate.
Consider the following list of items to be “basic.” The list is NOT intended to be
all-inclusive. Any other pertinent
information you find should be included at the end of the list. Note that “RANK” (see below) means national
rank, i.e., out of the 50 states. Use
almanacs, encyclopedias (NOT Wikipedia), the Internet, etc. to find this
information. See the back for suggested
